Membership policy

Draft for review. Effective October 3, 2026.

Who can be a member

geneseeid.us is a community site for Genesee, Idaho. Reading it is open to everyone. Membership, which lets you post, claim listings and invite others, is for people who live in Genesee or the rural area around it: any taxing district that includes Genesee, such as the city, the school district or the rural fire district.

How people join

You join by invitation from an existing member. To begin with, the site’s administrators and moderators invite the first members, who can then invite neighbors they know.

  • An invitation is a link that works once and expires after 14 days.
  • It is for the one person you give it to. Do not post an invitation in a public place, such as a social media group, a public page or a bulletin board. If you share one by text or in person, share it with someone you know lives here.
  • You may be asked to confirm that you live in a Genesee taxing district when you join. Please answer honestly.

Vouching for people

Every account records who invited it. When you invite someone, you are vouching that they live here and will follow the code of conduct. If an account is abused, the people who invited it, and the people it invited, may be looked at too.

If something goes wrong

  • Staff can suspend an account: it can’t post or invite while the matter is looked into. A suspension can be lifted.
  • An administrator can revoke an account. Its postings are hidden, not deleted, so they can be restored if the decision is overturned. Hidden postings that haven’t been appealed are deleted after 90 days.
  • When something went wrong at one point in the chain, staff can act on that account and everyone it invited since, after looking at who is affected and why.
  • You’ll be told by email what happened and how to appeal. To appeal, use the contact form.

Privacy

The record of who invited whom is visible only to site staff, and is used for the purposes above. See the privacy policy.
